Indian Bridal Fashion Cultures

Indian weddings are well known all over the world for their extensive rituals and beautiful customs. A lot of importance is given to the bride, her outfit, her makeup, jewellery, accessories which will further enhance her beauty and make her look special for the D day of her life, after all she needs to look the prettiest on the most special day of her life!

Here are the different types of Bridal Fashion or Wedding dresses in India:

Punjabi Bride Fashion

Punjabis are known all throughout the world for their pomp and show. A typical Punjabi bride is dressed in a bright red beautiful Punjabi suit on her wedding. She wears bright bangles which are also red in colour alongwith matching jewellery.

Traditional Indian Bride Fashion


The traditional Indian wedding is known all over the world. An Indian bride is often seen wearing a lehenga choli which looks like a long skirt with a matching top and a heavy dupatta to go with it or wear a heavy saree, with matching accessories. The colours most preferred for wedding are red and pink.

Garhwali Bride Fashion


A Garhwali bride dresses up in Ghagri, which looks like a skirt, A huge nose ring, known as Tehri Nath is a very prominent in a Garhwali wedding, adorns the beauty of the bride.

South Indian Bride Fashion


Separate customs are followed in a south Indian wedding. The bride generally wears a heavy silk saree which has a thick golden border with a lot of jewellery.

Bengali Indian Bride Fashion


A Bengali wedding is quite different to the other weddings held in India. The bride wears a white, or off-white sarees with red, pink and maroon borders. She applies a red bindi and red colour on her feet, known as Alta, and a maang tikka, are considered to be a prominent part in the make-up of a Bengali bride. Bengali bride also wear tiara on their head known as ‘Mukut’.
